Successful Completion of FAT for the World’s First Methanol-Fueled Smart VLCC Methanol Supply System by SMDERI-QET

Recently, Methanol Fuel Supply System (MFSS) for smart VLCCs independently developed by Shanghai Qiyao Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. (SMDERI-QET), a subsidiary of CSSC, successfully passed the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) with CMES, DSIC and CCS. The system underwent a full suite of test items, including maximum load steady-state testing, sudden load increase/decrease performance testing, and continuous operation testing. All technical parameters met the specified standards and technical requirements.

Over years of dedicated R&D, the SMDERI-QET project team has made significant breakthroughs in key technologies such as methanol fuel pressure and temperature regulation, intelligent safety monitoring, and stress optimization of skid-mounted structures. The developed MFSS is capable of continuously and stably delivering methanol that meets flow rate, pressure, and temperature requirements to the main and auxiliary engines of dual-fuel vessels. It ensures stable supply pressure under varying operational conditions such as load fluctuations, thereby effectively guaranteeing the reliability and safety of clean fuel supply, including methanol.

The successful completion of the FAT marks a critical milestone for SMDERI-QET in the domain of MFSS for ocean-going vessels. Looking ahead, SMDERI-QET will launch a portfolio of MFSS tailored to various vessel types through a systematic, modularized design approach. This will provide users with green and low-carbon fuel solutions and offer robust support for the shipping industry's transition to sustainable, low-carbon operations.
