SMDERI-QET Hosts the 3rd Academic Conference and 2025 Planning Meeting of the CSNAME-CSPP

On May 23, the 3rd Academic Conference and 2025 Planning Meeting of the Ship Pollution Prevention Technical Committee(CSPP) under the Chinese Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (CSNAME) was successfully held in Shanghai.

 

The conference was co-hosted by the CSNAME and the Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research Institute (SMDERI), and organized by Shanghai QiYao Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. (SMDERI-QET). The event was attended by Mr. Ma Yupu, Chairman of the Committee; Mr. He Zhijian, Director of the Science and Technology Committee of SMDERI; Dr. Su Yi, General Manager of SMDERI-QET; Mr. Wang Tingyong, Secretary General of the Committee; along with over 70 experts and committee members, engaging in academic discussions and technical exchanges on ship pollution prevention.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Ma Yupu emphasized the Committee’s ongoing commitment to its founding mission: to deeply implement Chinese strategies for marine ecological civilization and align closely with the vision of green ships and green shipping. Key focus areas include marine water pollution control, air emissions mitigation, clean fuel adoption, and emerging pollutant prevention. He stressed the importance of increased research investment and collaboration to drive the development and application of new technologies and products.

Mr. He Zhijian from SMDERI highlighted in his speech that China has made remarkable strides in ship pollution prevention in recent years. Industry experts have been deeply involved in key national projects, leading breakthroughs in several critical, bottleneck technologies. The sector has achieved milestone outcomes in areas such as low-emission propulsion systems and intelligent environmental protection equipment. He reaffirmed that as a member organization of the Committee, SMDERI will fully support its initiatives, join hands with industry partners to foster an open and inclusive collaborative ecosystem, and contribute Chinese expertise to the global mission of ship pollution prevention.

During the academic forum, ten experts from industry, academia, research institutions, and end-user sectors shared multi-dimensional insights into ship pollution prevention technologies.

Alongside the conference, the Committee convened its 2025 Annual Planning Meeting, during which Secretary General Wang Tingyong delivered a report reviewing the Committee’s 2024 activities and outlining its 2025 work plan. The meeting also approved the addition of Nanjing Customs Animal, Plant and Food Testing Center, and Shanhaiguan Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. as new member units. Wang Guodong and Su Yi were appointed as Deputy Chairmen of the Committee, while Zuo Ying, Feng Zhen, Liu Tao, Li Xiang, and Li Jinguang were newly elected as Committee Members.
