On June 24th local time, Shanghai QiYao Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. (SMDERI-QET), a subsidiary of CSSC, successfully organized an ammonia-fueled vessel technology seminar in Tokyo, Japan, attracting maritime industry leaders and experts. On the same occasion, SMDERI-QET proudly announced the grand opening of its Tokyo Office, marking a significant milestone in its global expansion.

Themed "Green Shipping," the seminar brought together over 70 maritime industry leaders from Japanese shipowners, shipyards, engine manufacturers, classification societies, and suppliers to explore practical pathways for achieving "zero-carbon navigation" through ammonia fuel technology.

Lu Zheng, Assistant Director of CSSC's SMDERI, emphasized in his opening speech that SMDERI-QET has always adhered to the core philosophy of "green and low-carbon," committed to building an end-to-end solution for synergistic reduction of greenhouse gases and pollutants in ships—from the "fuel end" to the "exhaust end." With the awakening of global environmental awareness and the deepening implementation of the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) decarbonization policies, green and low-carbon development has become an irreversible trend in the shipping industry. Ammonia fuel, as a clean, efficient, and renewable energy source, is increasingly demonstrating its strategic importance in shipping decarbonization and has become a focal point for industry R&D and application. Over the years, SMDERI-QET has dedicated itself to advancing clean fuel-powered vessel technologies, continuously increasing R&D investment to drive product innovation and upgrades. This seminar aims to establish a high-level, open exchange platform, collaborating with industry partners to explore the optimal application pathways for ammonia fuel in shipping and to propel sustainable industry development through innovative solutions.

At the seminar, Zeng Xianyou, Senior Executive of SMDERI, delivered a keynote technology presentation. The ammonia dual-fuel engine independently developed by the SMDERI demonstrated exceptional performance and broad application prospects. This innovative system offers unparalleled flexibility and efficiency, functioning both as a power generator and a ship's main engine to meet vessels' full-range operational power demands. By adopting the advanced "ammonia port injection + diesel pilot ignition" technology, it achieves a record-breaking ammonia substitution rate of over 85%, significantly reducing ship carbon emissions. The breakthrough provides the shipping industry with a reliable, high-efficiency power solution, accelerating the sector's green transition.

Dai Jianan, Product Manager of SMDERI-QET, further presented the company's innovative achievements in ammonia supply and post-treatment technologies. The ammonia fuel supply system demonstrates strong scenario adaptability, meeting diverse requirements across different users and vessel types. Meanwhile, the ammonia engine exhaust post-treatment system offers customized solutions, achieving ultra-low emissions in all scenarios through integrated dual-mode processing capabilities. This innovation effectively reduces costs and operational complexity, laying a solid technical foundation for green shipping development.

Kenichi Oki of K-Line delivered a keynote speech on the company's carbon neutrality initiatives, providing valuable insights into cutting-edge practices for the shipping industry's green transition.

Tatsuhei Sakai of ClassNK (Nippon Kaiji Kyokai) delivered an in-depth analysis on the development progress of ammonia fuel safety guidelines and practical initiatives to promote alternative fuel adoption, offering critical references for participants to navigate industry standards and technological trends.

During the open discussion session, participants engaged in vibrant exchanges on key topics including ammonia fuel technology implementation, policy support mechanisms, and industrial chain coordination. The dialogue generated multiple constructive insights and actionable solutions to advance the sector's decarbonization efforts.
Notably, SMDERI-QET officially inaugurated its Tokyo Office on the same day. As Asia's pivotal economic and shipping hub, Tokyo hosts headquarters of world-class shipping companies, classification society branches, and maritime service providers, forming a comprehensive shipping industry cluster. The establishment of the Tokyo Office marks a strategic milestone in SMDERI-QET's global expansion, creating a platform for communication, cooperation, and mutual benefit with clients in Japan and surrounding regions.
SMDERI-QET will further intensify its focus on high-end marine environmental equipment, driving comprehensive upgrades across research and development innovation, production process optimization, and quality control. Equipped with cutting-edge technologies and quality services, the company will collaborate with global partners to inject robust momentum into shipping's green transformation, jointly pioneering a sustainable future for the maritime industry.
