Industry Frontier | Establishment of "Performance Evaluation Criteria for Onboard Carbon Capture Systems" Urgently Needed

The International Organization for Standardization Technical Committee for Ships and Marine Technology (ISO/TC 8) recently held its 44th plenary meeting in Istanbul. Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research lnstitute (SMDERI), as the leading proponent for the international standard "Performance Evaluation Method for Onboard Carbon Capture and Storage Systems," was invited to attend and deliver a thematic presentation.
As OCCS technology matures and moves toward large-scale application , establishing an internationally unified standard has become crucial for promoting regulated industry development and global collaboration. Leveraging its profound technical expertise and pioneering application experience in the field of OCCS, SMDERI was nominated by CSSC to lead the proposal for this international standard.
During the thematic presentation, representatives from SMDERI systematically elaborated on the current state of OCCS technology and the urgency of international standard development from multiple perspectives, including the regulatory framework, technological maturity, and industrial chain support. The aim was to further foster international consensus and secure broader industry support.
SMDERI will continue to deepen its technical research and accelerate the standardization and regulatory integration process for OCCS technology. This effort seeks to create a virtuous cycle where "technology drives standard development, and standards promote technology adoption".
